If there is one thing that I have been focusing a lot more on, that is my skin care routine. I have been sticking to it – both morning and night – and loving it. Sitting at my dressing table applying all my creams, oils, serums and looking after my skin is now my favourite part of the day. I have talked about my skincare routine previously, here, and to be honest not much as changed. I don’t think I have ever used the same products for this long. I have repurchase them multiple times and I cannot live without them. But one thing I have added on to that routine in a regular basis is the Jade Facial Roller or a facial massage. I know, sounds like a bit too much and I also didn’t think it was necessary but since I have started doing it, I just cannot go back.
So much so that last week, my old facial roller broke and I was on the Feel Unique website straight away ordering a new one. That’s how much I cannot live without it!
So, why a facial roller? What are they for, what are the benefits, why do you need one and most important of all, how should we use it? Well, they’re basically paint rollers for your skin! The Jade Facial Roller is meant to:
- increase the elasticity of your skin
- reduce the appearance of pores
- boost the collagen levels
- reduce your puffiness & wrinkles
- improve your overall skin tone
- promote lympahtic drainage
- stimulate blood circulation
- eliminate yucky toxins
The ones made with gemstones are a lot more popular, specially with jade and quartz, that have a calming and cooling effect. Facial rollers have actually been around since the 17th century in China but only recently they became very popular in the beauty community.
Most of them have two different sized rollers on each side, the bigger one is meant to be used for your neck, jawline, cheekbones and forehead and the small one can be used for the sides of your nose and under eyes. Because of the gemstones, they have that natural cooling effect but some people like to place it in a little bit of cold iced water for an extra cooling effect. Perfect to use it either morning and night, this is an extra step in my skincare routine I really don’t mind doing.
It is recommended to use the roller for about three to five minutes to achieve maximum benefits. Often the directions say for you to use it after applying your facial oil or serum as it helps with the absorption and also the roller glides easier on your skin but some beauty gurus say that they are smooth enough to use it on it’s own. So I guess if you just want a bit of a relaxing effect without the extra help to absorb the product, then do it like that. I use it right after applying my oil, I am currently using Kiehl’s (morning and night) and I think it helps it sink in a lot better and I don’t have to wait as much to then apply the following products.
Now, how to use the Jade Facial Roller? It is actually pretty simple. As I said, use the bigger side to larger areas of your face and if your roller has a smaller side, use it on your under eye area as well as the sides of your nose. You need to take the facial roller and roll from the center of your face upper and outwards towards your temples. When doing your forehead, do it in an upward motion. Sounding all a bit confusing? Well I found this lovely lady on YouTube that teaches us all about skincare so watch this video on how to use a facial roller and also it is worth watching this one as well, on how to massage your face! You can use this if you don’t want to buy the roller but honestly, just buy it. It is so worth it even if it is for the relaxing part of it all.
Do I notice any difference? Yes! My face isn’t as puffy, it is a lot smoother, pores are minimized and my dark circles aren’t as dark as they used to be. I don’t have any wrinkles so I can’t tell you if you’d notice a massive difference in that aspect but I have some fine lines on my neck and the roller, together with a new neck cream I bought seem to be doing a good job but I only just started using it for that purpose so it is still a bit too soon to tell!
And there you go, all the info I know about facial rollers. If you have one and love it as much as I do, let me know! If you don’t have one, are you considering buying one now after reading this? Let me know! Share your best skin care tips on the comments bellow.
