Facial Oils and How They Can Transform Your Skincare

Kiehls Facial Oils

Skincare has been a big part of my days lately. I have always said that, one day, I would commit and be spot on on my morning and skincare routine and that day has finally arrived. Since I started my maternity leave, I have had all the time of the world to really look after myself at least until the baby arrives. So because I have been sticking to it religiously, I have actually started noticing massive differences on my skin. I always knew that the products I had were good – Kiehl’s – but my skin is proving that to me now.

I have noticed an improvement specially in my skin texture and pores and I do think it is also because this main element: face oils. Before, I normally would just apply moisturiser and I wouldn’t even bother with an eye cream. I slowly started building my skincare routine up and I’ve gone from moisturiser only to cleanser, toner, moisturiser, eye cream, neck cream and face oils. I also used to have a serum but I have ran out and haven’t repurchased it yet. I know, pretty extreme. Not only that, but I have also been loving using my Jade Facial Roller (full review). I am a transformed woman and I am loving it.

So, let’s talk facial oils! What are their benefits, can you use them if you have oily skin? Do they really make all the difference? We shall find out.

facial oils for every skin type

Let me start by saying that there is a facial oil for every skin type. Surprised? So was I when I researched about the subject before diving into the world of facial oils. I have normal to dry skin and when looking for the right facial oils for me, I found a whole world of them for every skin type you can imagine. So no matter if you have normal, dry, oily or glowing skin, there is a facial oil for you. Facial oils are important as they can actually regulate your skin’s oil production if you use the correct one. They also help to seal all the lovely products you applied before (moisturisers and serums, for example), ensuring they work harder for longer. So, consequently, you will see more benefits to your skin.

But what benefits, you may ask? Face oils give the skin almost instant smoothness and softness as they are packed with great nutrients that help repairing and maintaining the skin barrier. So if you are looking for a radiant and healthy looking bare skin, maybe consider adding a face oil to your skincare stash.

How to choose a face oil then? Well, you need to really know your skin type, your skin’s sensitivities and what it’s lacking. When you know all of this, do a quick browse and find the right oil for you (don’t worry, I’ll also share some of peoples’ favourites for different types of skin. So that’s some of the work done for you!). Then, you just need to incorporate it into your routine. So, when to apply it? Facial oils should be applied to clean, dry skin after your toner and before your serum and moisturiser. Apply a few drops with your hands, massaging it well to the skin and allowing it do dry before going for the next step. Again, you can use a facial roller as it will also help with the absorption of product, amongst other benefits (read all about facial rollers here).
