Skin care is a tricky subject around here. I was never the kind of person to look after my skin until not very long ago. I would do the bare minimum and expect my skin to look perfect. Guess what – it wasn’t happening. It didn’t take me long to realize that I needed to look after my skin properly as soon as I could and I have been doing so for about four years now.
Have I been really strict with it and following every step every day without missing anything? Hell no. But I am trying.
The problem here is that I see myself wanting to try all the new stuff, new moisturizers, face masks and recently serums. Who would have thought that serums can do such magic?
Also, with the wedding date coming closer, I want to have a perfect skin care regime that gives me healthy looking, glowing, smooth skin and so I do have to experiment and try new products.
After reading a lot of bloggers raving about The Ordinary skin care products, I couldn’t help but to try them and as for a start I bought a moisturizer, serum and primer and this is where I fell in love with this brand.
You might have seen on my Cult Beauty Haul post a few of my recent purchases including these three products from The Ordinary. It has been about a week since I started trying them and although for some that might not be a lot, I can tell you that in a week I’ve seen much happening in my skin and I know it is because of this amazing brand – nothing more, nothing less.
Since the first day I decided to start trying out these new products I made a promise of not missing a day and follow this routine strictly morning and night, applying the moisturizer and serum without a fail. I also promised that I would use this primer and no other before applying my makeup and that has been happening too. I did not wear makeup everyday, obviously, but I payed a lot of attention on the days I did to see how this primer was performing. Here’s my thoughts on these three products.
First, the packaging – very simple, minimalistic, light weight, practical and easy to travel with. I love that the serum and primer come with a dropper. It makes it so much easier to use the appropriate amount and not to waste any product.
In terms of quantity, I feel like the moisturizer probably won’t last me very long if I continue using it day and night as it only comes with 30 ml of product. Yet, you only need a small amount (pee size) to apply it to your whole face.
The serum and primer will probably last me a little bit longer but, in all honesty, these products are so affordable that it is hard to be mad about anything really.
It is such an affordable brand for the amazing products they have but please keep it that way. I want to be able to continue using it for as long as I can.
Now let’s talk about the products a bit more in depth, shall we?
As I mention in my Cult Beauty Haul post, The Ordinary is a brand that has very specific products with very difficult names so it can be a bit tricky to choose the ideal products for you. I wanted something hydrating, to reduce fine lines and that would give me the appearance of smoother skin. So that was what I was always looking for when searching for the right products for me. So make sure you do your research, take your time to read about the product itself and its benefits and choose what is right for you.
My skin is quite dry and has a bit of texture so hydration was key for me. Therefore, and looking into some of the best selling products, I added the The Ordinary Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate 10% to my basket.
It is claimed to be a “light cream designed to target dullness, uneven tone and signs of skin aging, providing brightening benefits”.
With only 30ml in this tube, you have got some magic over here. At first, I thought this little amount wouldn’t last me long but you only need about a pee size of this cream to cover your whole face and feel the hydration.
After ruffly a week of using this moisturizer day and night – and I admit that I failed a couple because I have the flu and couldn’t be bothered with any sort of skin care – my face looks much smother and the small amount of hyper pigmentation I had is almost gone. I don’t think it’s my mind playing tricks. I honestly think this is a great product.
Not only it feels great when applying but it also doesn’t have any chemical scent that will bother you (at least not that I notice) and it actually works. And for less than £10, it is more than worth it.
Now this product was the one that surprised me the most and probably because I never used a serum in my whole life. I was always about removing makeup, cleansing, toning and moisturizing. No serums for this gal over here. But the The Ordinary “Buffet” Multi-Technology Peptide Serum came to stay and completely changed my skin care game. I strongly believe that this is what has made the massive change on my skin to be honest.
Again, this is another product targeting skin hydration but also anti-aging, reducing the appearance of fine lines and textural irregularities – I couldn’t agree more.
When you first apply it, it feels like nothing. It is quickly absorbed into the skin and you have the instinct of wanting to apply more just to feel like you have something on your face but you don’t need it. Only apply the right amount using the dropper that is included and that I love and you are good to go.
Even if you think that nothing is happening, just like I did, keep using it and you will see. I looked at my face yesterday morning and although I have the horrible flu (influenza A to be precise, the perks of working in the hospital. Yes, I have been feeling ruff and it takes me two days to right a post.) my skin looked and felt great. I think that is enough proof that this product is some good stuff and you need it in your life.
Last but not least, The Ordinary High-Spreadability Fluid Primer. Now, if you are looking for something that makes your makeup last much longer, this isn’t the product for you – yet, this made me think what a great idea it would be for The Ordinary to come up with a setting spray?!.
Anyways, back to the point here. This primer feels very smooth on the skin, like a second layer to prepare the canvas for the makeup you are about to apply.
I have noticed that when using this primer, the foundation not only applies a lot easier but also looks much better on the skin. Smooth and poreless, I would say.
It has a beautiful, dewy finish that will compliment your skin when wearing makeup but also works great on it’s own to give you a more healthy, glowing skin. It is a beautiful primer that I will definitely continue using.
And these are all my thoughts about these three products from such an amazing brand. Am I using the correct regime? Maybe not. I have picked individual products according to my skin needs and I think I did a pretty good job and my skin is thanking me a lot.
Next I would really love to try their foundations, I think they must look beautiful on the skin. I will hopefully be buying them sooner than later and we will see how they work for me!
Have you ever tried any products from The Ordinary? If so, any thoughts?
